ABOUT THE DIPLOMA

Built Form Design Academy has designed the Diploma to give you the practical skills and knowledge required for success in the building design industry.

Undertaking tasks that follow a workflow that emulates the job of a Building Designer – you will be developing a portfolio of three major projects, including:

• A house
• A medium density residential project
• A commercial building

This portfolio can be utilised when you are looking for work – to demonstrate your capabilities.

WHAT WILL I LEARN ABOUT?

Building designers need to be able to apply a wide variety skills and knowledge in the development of designs for small to medium scale building projects.

The Diploma will focus on developing core skills and knowledge in:

• Sustainable design
• Architectural styles and movements
• Modelling using 3D CAD (Computer Aided Drafting)
• Developing and analysing client briefs
• Evaluating sites and survey techniques
• Developing concepts for designs
• Evaluating and resolving designs for building projects
• Standard construction systems and materials
• Building compliance, including developing an understanding of state and local government authority approval processes, the National Construction Code and Australian Standards
• Designing buildings for accessibility
• Documenting buildings for different phases in a design project
• Project presentation
• Portfolio development
